Residences at Beacon Center & Emery United Methodist Church
By prioritizing a campus-style layout for both the congregation and new residents, the architect created a modern residential building that serves as a subtle backdrop, effectively framing and elevating the historic church. Since the church is a National Historic Landmark, preserving its original structure was the primary goal. To achieve this, a non-historic addition was removed, allowing the new apartment complex to wrap seamlessly around and behind the church while concealing a two level underground parking garage below. It was a sophisticated feat of historic preservation and modern integration.
